QUALITIES OF SOUND.

INTENSITY.

It allows us to distinguish between loud and soft sounds.
The intensity depends in the wave amplitude:

 

The up wave represent a loud wave and the donw's one represent a soft wave.

LETTERS:

PP: pianissimo ( very soft )













P: piano ( soft )
MP: mezzo piano ( moderately soft )






MF:mezzoforte ( moderately loud )
F: forte ( loud )
FF: fortissimo ( very loud )


Sf; sforzando ( accented )

Italian terms:

Crescendo: gradually increasing intensity.

Decrescendo: gradually decreasing intensity:


Hairpins: symbols that indicate a gradual change  of intensity.
